Grab your friends, and let’s have fun in our Painting & Fusing Glass Kiln-forming Workshop! This is a good workshop for your first experience working with kiln-formed glass. Participants can learn about equipment, tools, and materials that transform raw glass into a memorable experience. When working in the kiln-forming studio, you are working with glass in its solid state to create and design your object. The assembled work is then put into a kiln, where it will be fired over a 12-hour cycle to fuse the layers.
In this 2-hour (maximum) kiln-forming glass workshop, each participant will demonstrate the basic techniques of kiln-formed glass to make one individual item. You will work with your instructor to design, cut, and layer glass to create a design a 6x 6 tile to be slumped post class.
Participants will work under guidance to cut sheets and paint their piece. Accessory pieces can be used (confetti, stringers, noodles, pebbles). Once completed, it will be loaded into a kiln and fired over at least one 12-hour cycle. Your piece will be wrapped and available for pick up in 5-7 business days from the original class date at Glassblowing Houston.
The kiln-forming studio at Glassblowing Houston uses and teaches exclusively with COE96 glass. All fusing and slumping are completed post-class. Please bring a sketchbook and writing utensils. Protective eyewear and close-toed shoes are required. An N-95 mask is needed to work with powders.
Everyone who makes glass with us must read and sign our online safety waiver. If participants are under 18, the safety waiver must be read and signed by the parent or legal guardian with the child’s name as the participant.
